pin-up girls before and after- 1950s

Kickass Kid of the Day: As 9-year-old Josef Miles and his mother walked around Kansas’ Washburn University campus last weekend, he noticed a group of Westboro Baptist Church members picketing as people headed to graduation ceremonies.
Josef asked mom if he could create his own sign, and promptly staged a one-man protest. His sign, written in pencil on a tiny sketchpad, read simply, “God Hates No One.”

But Zynga and Facebook? They seem more able to be toppled. It seems possible to knock them off of their throne. Two companies, OMGPOP and Instagram, came out of nowhere and became viable competitors. That’s kind of amazing. It’s amazing to me that Instagram got 30 million users in no time at all. It’s crazy that Draw Something can get 50 million downloads in 50 days. It’s mind blowing that Pinterest went from nothing to 10 million users in the blink of an eye. It’s amazing how fragile it all is. Facebook may be the first viable threat to Google, but its own market dominance is by no means assured.

advertise-this:

Client: Ray-Ban

Agency: Cutwater

Anyone who knows me, knows that if I could I would buy every style of Ray-Ban under the sun. I love this brand. It’s basically the Converse Chuck Taylors of sunglasses - they’re timeless, they’re versatile, and they’re bold. What more could you want?

That’s why I love this campaign, showing the spanning history of Ray-Ban’s legendary style, while highlighting the brand’s bold coolness.  It’s still as relevant today as it was in 1950, which isn’t a feat easily performed. And I love a good period piece, so these print ads were everything I could ask for. A pleasant surprise while flipping through magazines this month.

Happy Birthday, Ray-Ban!

A Mesmerizing Time-Lapse Composite of All the Views in ‘Rear Window’

Jeff Desom’s meticulous remix of Hitchcock’s iconic 1954 thriller retraces the film’s events in chronological order. “I dissected all of Hitchcock’s Rear Window and stitched it back together in After Effects,” the filmmaker explains. “Since everything was filmed from pretty much the same angle I was able to match them into a single panoramic view of the entire backyard without any greater distortions.”
